Rescue Me ID: 15-04-18-00365Forrest Gump (male)

Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

When we adopted Forrest it was belived he had a bum leg, thus the name. However we have found out that he has brain damage due to over breeding. He has ADHD and a limp. Most of the time he is a lovable pet. He sits with me on the sofa while I watch tv and sleeps in my bed with me at night. However he is overly high strung and seems to not be able to retain obedience training. He requires full time attention which we can not give him. Nor can we afford to keep up with the damage and losses he causes. He is destructive, chewing at furniture, carpets, etc. He will get into anything he can if left unattended, even if it is just a few minutes. ... (Read More)This includes chewing up laptops, remotes, toys, books, clothes and of course the trash. He would make an excellent pet for someone who has unlimited time to spend with him as he can not be trusted to be left alone. We love him dearly but can no longer endure the stress he has caused or afford to replace the items he ruins. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-23-00097Emma (female)

Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Emma came into our foster care in mid-January. She is a spayed Treeing Walker Coonhound weighing approximately 55 pounds and is most likely between 6-8 years old. She has a great spirit, gets along well with other dogs, and still has plenty of spunk. She loves to run around the yard, looking to pick-up the scent of whatever animals have recently passed through. She likes to chew on bones, chase the ball, curl up for naps, and appreciates loving pets and scratches. She is moderate to low energy, although appreciates a nice walk and occasional play breaks. We have not seen Emma with children, but suspect she would do well. If she is ... (Read More)consistent with the breed, she would likely harass the family cat, but have not witnessed her with any other animals besides dogs, which she gets along well with all breeds and sizes. Emma would make a loving companion in a household that is not looking for a high energy dog, but still looks forward to neighborhood walks and the companionship of a loving family. (Less)

Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Robert has just arrived in rescue and will be available for adoption once his vetting is complete. He is a friendly, social dog but is not used to being on leash. Robert and his friends come from a hoarding situation in West Virginia near the Maryland border. A man had taken in his neighbor's dogs when his neighbor passed away, but they were never spayed or neutered. Soon there were 45 dogs living with no heat, running water, or electricity. When the man was evicted all the dogs needed immediate help. The small local shelter didn't have the capacity to deal with such a large intake. BRSM was asked to help, and between us and a number of ... (Read More)other rescues, every last beagle and beagle mix made it out of the shelter in a matter of days. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-23-00074Annabelle (female)

Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Annabelle is a great love bug who loves to give kisses and thinks that she is a lap dog. We have been working on her manners and she is steadily learning them. Annabelle does get along with other dogs and cats but she likes to be top dog, so companion animals will need to be the 'roll-with-the-punches' sort. Annabelle loves having the run of her fenced yard, but we think she'd also be OK with someone who leash walks exclusively. If you are a runner, this is the girl for you! She's got the energy and the legs to keep up with you. If you don't plan to leash walk, she'll need a VERY securely fenced yard in order to stifle that need to explore ... (Read More)what's on the other side. She starts the night sleeping in bed with her foster parents, but sometime in the night moves to a chair in the living room. Could it be that somebody's snoring too loudly? (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-21-00148Homer (male)

Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Homer is a giant. He is the biggest coonhound I have ever seen. He is tall, and long, and weighs 68 pounds. And he is so skinny you can count his ribs, so when he fills out he will be over seventy pounds. He may be six years old, but he is pure puppy energy. He is so handsome! And he was quiet and easy to travel with...once we wrestled him into the car. He MUST go to a home with a six foot or greater privacy fence. He is impossible to walk, he is so strong and determined to bounce around. He needs leash training. And no doubt, everything training. No small kids. While he is a sweetheart and would no doubt love the company of little kids, ... (Read More)he would send them scattering like bowling pins. Let's keep in mind that he has run away from every home the shelter put him in. Not for beginner hound owners!! He is super affectionate. When I was sitting in the back of the car pushing him with my full weight to get him far enough in that I could tether him, he licked my face quite thoroughly. Same story when I had him in a full Nelson at the vet, trying to get a weight on him. So, he is very lovable and very big and strong. It is obvious why he was adopted out so many times...and why he was always returned. He is not a handful, he is more like a truck full. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-31-00434Willow (female)

Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Willow is a beautiful, smart, affectionate and typically impish coonhound. She'll be a year old at the end of the month and is a big boned gal weighing about 60 lbs. She's been to puppy kindergarden and socials and is fine with other dogs outside of the house. They say coonhounds aren't good with Invisible Fence -- but she learned the deal in a few days and stays inside the boundaries. The reason we are looking to re-home her is that she REALLY doesn't get along with her two elderly dog brothers here at home. No broken skin on the other dogs or us when breaking things up, but she should probably be the one and only princess of the ... (Read More)household. She's been through heat but not yet spayed, but we'll have it done prior to adoption. Up to date on all her vaccinations and as healthy as a dog can be. We are determined to find her a loving home, preferably as an only dog. Please contact us if you'd like to meet Willow. We would be open to letting the right prospective owner take her on a trial basis and we would take her back if you didn't fall completely in love with her. The $150 fee will be donated to the rescue. (Less)

Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Gardenia is a beautiful Treeing Walker Coonhound. Her laid-back and loving personality make her pleasant company. Gardenia came to the shelter as a stray, but she walks well on lead, leading us to believe she may have been someone's pet... someone who never bothered to claim her. Please consider giving this sweet, affectionate girl a forever home where she'll be loved for the rest of her days. Here she is posing so pretty. Her foster daddy got her all spiffed up! She got a bath and had her teeth brushed and her ears cleaned!
