Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Salisbury, NC (Rowan County) Rue, fka Ruger, was saved on his last adoptable day, 10/26/15. A group of us knew he would be a wonderful companion someday, so we took a leap of faith and came up with a plan to save him. With donations from our very generous supporters, we initiated a plan for Ruger. Initially, he was placed in boarding, but he didn't receive the care & attention he needed. We moved him & boarded him elsewhere so he could get the vetting & care he deserved while we continued to work on a plan for him. We found a foster for him. While being fostered, Rue had some 'aggressive' issues that we wanted to get checked out, so he is ... (Read More)currently with a trainer. We have learned a great deal about Rue from his trainer and now we are certain he is ready for his forever home. Our boy Rue is having a great time with his trainer and family. He's doing well. He has shown NO signs of any aggression, but he has learned to use his 'growl' to get what he wants. Rue is a 4 year-old male Boxer/Hound Mix. He is fully vetted, neutered, heartworm negative, on monthly preventatives & microchipped. Rue is crate-trained & house-broken. He is dog-friendly and he would actually LOVE to have a dog best friend. He is people-friendly; however, a home without children would probably be best due to his high energy level. A fenced-in yard is needed. After being dumped by his owner, boarded and then fostered, Rue needs & deserves the stability and normalcy of a family. An application for adoption, vet reference, home visit and $150 adoption fee is required (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-01-23-00478Edie (female)

Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Edie is a red tick coonhound. She is estimated at 2 years old and weighs 55 lbs. She and another purebred red tick female were picked up as strays and brought to the shelter. The owner came for them, but decided he could only afford to reclaim one of them?, which was very sad because Edie really loved her buddy. A rescue was found, and Edie was vetted and spayed, and treated for heartworms (treatment completed 10/23/15). But they backed out. Edie loves people. A lot. All she wants is for someone to pet her. Well, and feed her. She is very fond of food too (she was pretty thin when she got her but looks like she is starting to fill out). I ... (Read More)have a 6 year old son and they get along wonderfully. Her only issue with him is that she is a persistent jumper, but we are working on that. But she has shown no aggression or annoyance with him at all. In fact they lay on the couch together and watch tv. I also have a dog that is a little larger than her and they do very well together. They play hard and rest hard. She wants to play with every dog she sees. So while she does surprisingly well walking on a short leash, if you take her out on a longer leash or she sees another dog, she pulls, and she is very strong. I took her out for her first walk and she walked right next to me, as long as I kept her in close and other dogs were not around. She is not quite fully housebroken but she is learning quickly, having much fewer accidents. Same with manners. She arrived appearing to have no training at all but she now knows sit and is getting better with off. I think she is pretty smart so she should learn fast. And she responds to come when you say it like you are excited. She broke out of our yard twice (we have since fixed the gap in the fence) and as soon as we clapped our hands and called her she came right back. She sleeps in a crate all night with no issues and is usually crated a couple hours during the day for 'rest time' and isn't bothered by that. But I don't think she would do well being created all day. She is way too social. She does , however, love being in the backyard on sunny days. Sometimes she hangs out there almost all day, either playing with my dog or just lounging in the sun. She is not a fan of being out there in the rain or at night though. She goes to potty and is ready to come in. So bottom line: - crate trained - yes - housebroken - almost - people skills - so far loves everyone, including men and children - other dogs - seems to love other dogs, haven't seen her act negatively or fearfully towards any - manners - needs some work, mostly with 'off' but she is a very fast learner (she will do anything for affection) - personality - loving, energetic, sweet, really wants to please you so she gets scratches and hugs I think Edie has had a rough start in life and she has the physical scars to prove it. Missing part of one ear and a split lip. And I think maybe she has had puppies. But she is still beautiful. She needs someone to show her love and patience and make her feel safe. **************************************************************************************** JOIN US ON FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com/lovemuttsrescue VISIT OUR WEBSITE: www.LoveMuttsRescue.org ADOPT OR FOSTER: Please see our home page for links to our applications Full calendar of events on the website above.     From Rudy's foster mom: Rudy, I have been told, is a Deerhound. He apparently had been running loose for some time before making his way to my house. He is about three years old, and is a 'Special Needs' dog because he has a congenital eye disease called Mydriasis that is robbing him of his sight. In spite of that he gets around fairly well and off-leash he chooses to run, not walk. If you are interested in Rudy, please go to apsofpc.org and fill out the non-binding Adoption Application.     Hi there folks! I am George!! Curious as can be and good looking to boot! I am a senior around age 8. Treeing Walker Coonhound is the breed. Sniffing is what I love to do smile emoticon As well as be loved on by you. I am sweet and kind. I would do fine with other dogs but I would chase cats as I have that hunter dog prey drive. I am HW free which is a miracle. So how did I get here to FCHS you ask. Well on a day a few months ago I was tired of being alone and on the go. I found a wonder horse stall in covered barn.     My name is Bubba and I'm still looking for my forever home. I was pulled from a kill shelter over 5 months ago and have been in rescue ever since.I was pulled for my owner but then surrendered to my rescue Faith Hope & Love Animal Rescue NC by my owner when I was very sick and they didn't have means to take care of me any longer. I had a lengthy stay in the hospital because the doctor said I had been literally starved to death and my blood work was all over the place. I had a horrible scrotal infection and also had a complete scrotal removal surgery. I was also food aggressive because I had been starved, but my foster mom worked on that with ... I am completely vetted including neuter, micro chip, heart worm test (which I'm negative), vaccinations, wormed etc and I am also on monthly preventatives. I love playing with my foster brothers and sister and even cat friendly. Rescue Me ID: 15-11-13-00173Blackberry (male)

Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered

Blackberry is a 4-year-old tri-colored hound mix in foster in the Charlotte area. He weighs about 65 lbs. Here is an update from his foster: Blackberry is house and crate trained. He does howl if you put him in crate at night because he prefers to sleep on the couch (we don't crate him at night anymore since he doesn't have accidents anymore). LOVES kids!!! LOVES!! He is rambunctious and knocks Isabella (1 year old) down a lot, so older kids may be best (unless the parents are like us and don't mind their kid getting knocked down some....). He is gentle with her and lets her lay all over him! He loves to be outside when the older kids in ... (Read More)the neighborhood are out and goes up to each and everyone of them to get some love! Walks decently on leash (still a work in progress). He will pee on leash but it takes him a while to poop on leash, but we have a fenced yard so we usually just let him poop out there. Needs at least a 6 foot fence or to be on leash at all times!! We have a 4 1/2 foot fence that he can jump over easily! He can probably get over a 6 foot fence too if there something against the fence for him to jump on to help him over. LOVES food and treats. He always takes treats nicely unless the rest of the other dogs are around and then he can get kind of choppy because he is worried that they're going to steal it. The only time I have ever seen him snarl at the other dogs is when he is in his crate eating and they go over to sniff his bowl. I can put my hand in his food bowl and take it away from him with no problems. He likes to chew on toys and will get a baby toy every now and then, but if you snap your fingers and tell him to leave it he just walks away. He really enjoys being petted and will stand there and let you pet and rub him as long as you will do it! He gets along well with all of our dogs, but does tend to buy a little hard while playing. We have not officially cat tested him but there are some feral cats that live around here that he will give the play position to but they just run away from him...so I can't give a good opinion on cats or small dogs. He is a hound and can be stubborn so teaching him to sit is also a work in progress....right now he just continuously backs up when I tried to get him to sit, so he hasn't mastered that yet. Overall, he is a very, very sweet dog and would be great in most any home. ******************************** LIKE US ON FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com/lovemuttsrescue Visit our WEBSITE www.lovemuttsrescue.org to find out more about our upcoming adoption events around the Triangle and which dogs will be there. Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hoooowdy! My name is Spot AKA HOUNDY to people in the know and I am Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix. From my foster mom: The story of 'Houndy' AKA SPOT Hound dog, which is what he is currently known for simply because he is all Hound dog! I first noticed Houndy running my neighborhood in Wake Forest along Main St. where I continued to see him 'run' for the next week. Finally a neighbor was able to coax him over and we were able to catch him. I agreed to foster him where he has been happily living with myself, my 8 year old son and 4 dogs of my own. When I first got Houndy he wouldn't let anyone come near him. He was very skittish of loud ... (Read More)noises and sudden movements no doubt a fear he developed while trying to dodge traffic off Main St. He has gotten so much better but is still shy when he meets someone. However, once he warms up to you, you have a friend for life. Houndy still has the passion to run so having a nice big back yard for him to get his exercise is imperative. Although he has come so far with his fears he still doesn't love loud noises and sudden movements so being around small children might not be the best fit for him. Houndy will win your heart the first time you look at his face. He is very smart. He is not shy about letting you know when he wants something as he will tell you with his 'Hound dog' voice. Again, he is very smart! He barks when he is hungry, he barks when he needs to go outside (as he patiently waits by the door) and he barks when he wants your spot on the bed. smile emoticon If you are looking for a loyal dog who will challenge you to keep active then you won't find a better match. Houndy has captured my heart. I love him like he is my own so I really want to see him happy with a family who has a lot of love to give. Adopt HOUNDY today. He is UTD on shots, fixed, chipped, and all ready to meet you. Adoption fee is $225 Spot AKA HOUNDY, Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix has been shared from Shelter Exchange. (Less)

Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Hi my name is Nathan and I am a playful and fun-loving fox hound! I am a young boy and have lots of energy. I enjoy frolicking around my foster mom's big back yard with my foster siblings and playing fetch with whoever will throw me a rope. I am quite affectionate and love to give kisses. Like most hounds I love to jump and my foster mom is trying to break me of it but it is still a work in progress. I only jump because I want you to know how much I love you and how excited I am to see you but she tells me that jumping isn't allowed%BD'%BD| sigh. I do well with other dogs but should be introduced properly to dominant males. I was just ... (Read More)recently neutered so I have some lingering testosterone! I do well with kids and cats! I would prefer not to be left in the crate for long periods of time because it makes me a little cranky. I'd much rather spend time with my people or playing with my dog friends. I would like to go to an active family and/or to a family with a fenced in backyard and a playmate or two. Unfortunately my old owners were not responsible and now I am heart worm positive. This should not deter anyone from adopting me though since heart worm is curable and once my treatment is done I will be as good as new! I am able and willing to go to a family before my treatment is complete as long as they are able to see me through my treatment (which will be paid for by FCHS). I am neutered, up to date on vaccinations and micro-chipped. My adoption fee is $200. If you would like more information about me please contact my foster mommy at leh4101@gmail.com! Thank you for adopting!!! (Less)

Penny gets very excited when it comes to meal or treat time, but otherwise has a moderate energy level. Pennylives with two dogs in her foster home and gets along great with them. It's fun to watch her play with them since she is so much faster and easily out runs them! Since Penny loves to run a fence in yard and roam to be a dog would be best. She also has a 3 year old human foster brother. Penny is very comfortable with him and not timid or skittish.     Ginger is a shy, sweet girl who gets alone with everyone. She will make a great companion for some lucky person. (A word from Ginger's foster.)     'From Muski's foster mom: As I sat here in my recliner tonight, eating pizza and watching Muski lying quietly on the floor nearby, I thought about how much our handsome boy has matured since his puppy days spent tied out under a tree. He is perfectly happy just to be a part of the family. He is housebroken, gets along well with our other dogs, and is compliant with whatever requests we make, as long as he understands them. His biggest frustrations are that he is not allowed to chase our cats and that he is too big to be a lap dog, but he keeps trying!
