This young hound walked up our driveway recently and decided to stay! She has no collar or tags. We have not been able to locate her owner. She is a sweetie but we already have 4 other rescue dogs and cannot afford another one. She appears to have been well cared for. Her coat is beautiful and shiny. It is a pleasure to watch her run as gracefully as a deer. She gets along with our other dogs without a problem. She is not a barker- although she does a 'hound howl' when our other dogs are starting their symphony.

Would you like to know why I am smiling? Just a few months ago, I belonged to someone. Someone who didn't care enough to clip my nails when they were way too long that it hurt. Someone who didn't care enough to have tags on me in case I got lost in the woods. Someone who didn't care enough to come looking for me when I got lost. Just weeks ago...I was lost and starving. Not knowing where my next meal would come from. I was sleeping on the cold hard ground sometimes during rain storms. I belonged to no one. Just days ago I was living in a kennel with lots of loud dogs barking all around me. I had food and water and a house to sleep in but I just knew this would be my last stop in life. No people to love me, no home to live in. No one would choose me when there were other dogs much healthier than me all around. People would look at me and say 'oh poor dog' and keep walking. Giving up hope I stood quietly by my kennel door watching people come and go. Two people came to my kennel door and spoke to me. I wagged my tail slowly. They were nice. They walked away. I knew they wouldn't chose me. Three kennels down they chose another dog. I went back to my house to lay down. Just hours ago, those same two people came back for me.....could it be??!!! Yes they chose me too!!! I will not lie, I was scared. Why would they choose me? What was going to happen to me? Just minutes ago, I knew why. They loved me. They wanted to give me the chance I deserved when no one else would. So you see....I have something to smile about. Second chances are something to smile about and I got mine......Love Molly (Less)

Hey there, I'm Susanna! I am a super happy, 3 year old Treeing Walker Coonhound, looking for my forever home. I was lost and ended up at Rowan County Animal Shelter, but Troutman Canine Rescue pulled me out of there just in the nick of time. I will make a great addition to your family! I am house-trained, love other dogs and kids, am spayed, have all my shots, and am microchipped. I love getting attention and spending time with my foster family. Is your family the right family for me?? I like to chase cats and bark at them, so I can only go to a home without cats. PLEASE NOTE: I an not a hunting dog!! Serious inquiries only. Call Joyce at show contact info for more info. Rehoming fee of $150 to help cover expenses. **Please note: a vet reference will be required prior to adoption **Adoptions are completed as home visits (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-01-00185DaisyDuke (female)
Daisy is a Treeing Walker dropped off at the Vet Clinic that I work at. The previous owner that dropped her off and surrendered her had adopted her from the shelter and wasn't prepared to take care of a Walker! I took her home so she wasn't stuck at the clinic, but cannot keep her. I need to find a new home for her asap. She's VERY sweet. Wants to hunt ('trees' everything at my house and tried to run away to find other dogs barking in my little country neighborhood.) There are some hunting folks near me and when they are out with their hunting baying dogs she tries to find them. She can be called off (great recall) but if you aren't watching her or with her, she will end up with them. She does appears to have had an E collar misused on her as she was overly sensitive when one was tried on her appropriately. She freezes. Using just tone or vibrate. She's 2 y.o. spayed, UTD on vaccines and has no known health problems (Heartworm negative too). She's a cuddler and loves to be near her person at all times. She will relax in a crate after some good exercise as asked to also. Please let me know if you know a good rescue that will take her or you know someone that might be interested (and experienced) to provide her a good forever home! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-04-27-00383Joe (male)
Joe is approx. 4-5 years of age. He is a sweet and loving 82 pound boy who loves attention. He loves to wallow and rub on you to show that he loves you and wants to be loved on. As most hounds, he does have a loud bark or bellow when something like birds, cats, or other dogs catch his attention. He does excellent on a leash and well in a car. He is food aggressive, so we do not recommend a family with young children.

Rescue Me ID: 16-04-13-00425JD or Tucker (male)
Hi my name is Kaelee I am a military wife mom of 4 and I am trying to get help for a 3 year old treeing walker coonhound that we found. He has been roaming our neighborhood since April 1. I got him on April 7 and posted him in our local lost and found pet pages and continued to look back to try to find his owns. I found someone else form the middle part of March who had also found him and contacted them to see if anyone was looking for this sweet boy. On April 8th I took him to the vet to see if he was microchipped and he was. So I get in contact with the original owners to find out that his name is JD he is 3 years old he is heartworm positive and they surrendered him to the local animal shelter. I then contact the vets office where I get information on what it is going to cost and what all it was going to take to get him well. I then contact the animal shelter to find out if he had new owners and to my surprise he did. The animal shelter then contacted the new owners, who where not so nice and informed them they didn't want him either. So we do a bunch of research on the bread and I go get all his medical records form the animal shelter we rename him Tucker and start making him a part of our family. Here is where the part that stinks comes in. We are getting ready to move to Oregon on military orders and had planned on taking him with us but we are only allowed to have 2 pets in government housing. So in order to keep him we would have to rehome one of our other pets that have been part of the family for years and we have only had him for a week. I just don't feel right taking him back to the shelter. He is super sweet he is great with kids, other dogs, and cats. I just need help getting this boy healthy and a new home. Please help. Thanks, Kaelee (Less)

This young male hound arrived at my home Easter Sunday, cold, wet, starving, and limping. I didn't have the heart to surrender this sweet boy last week but I really DO have to now. Someone, please call me immediately. Our local animal shelter is a Kill facility. These poor starving abandoned and abused hounds are frequently seen along the road side after hunting season is over; some dead, some alive and starving. Please give this one a good home.

Animal ID: 2015-34Rudy (male)
UPDATE ON RUDY'S SIGHT PROBLEMS FROM HIS FOSTER MOM: Rudy gets around very well, both inside and out. If I should change direction on him, for example while walking through the house when he is going the same direction heading for a treat or to go out, it takes him a second to catch on, and we may lightly bump, but he really is not handicapped very much at all. I have been cleaning the porch over several days, and leaving furniture, etc., in different places than normal. Doesn't faze him at all. We still feel Rudy would need a fenced yard or should be on a leash at all times when he is outside Rudy From Rudy's foster mom: Rudy, I have been told, is a Deerhound. He apparently had been running loose for some time before making his way to my house. He is about three years old, and is a 'Special Needs' dog because he has a congenital eye disease called Mydriasis that has robbed him of some of his sight. The vet thinks that his sight won't get any worse than it is now. He gets around fairly well and off-leash he chooses to run, not walk. The other day he was chasing flying bugs in the back yard. If you are interested in Rudy, please go to apsofpc.org and fill out the non-binding Adoption Application. We will contact you after we receive it. (Less)

My name is Snoop and I definitely live up to my name! I am very curious, playful, energetic, smart, and just a sweet boy. I am about a year old now and weigh between 50 and 60 pounds. My mommy never lived with me, but helped raise me since I was about 10 weeks old. I wasn't in the best situation, and my mommy can tell you about that. She loves me very much and wishes she was able to keep me, but her living situation won't allow that. She has worked very hard to get me into a better situation, and a wonderful rescue organization has taken me in. I am currently staying in a doggy resort until a foster home opens up, or until I find a wonderful permanent home with a family that will give me lots of love and attention, and a big yard to run and play in. I have worked some on housetraining, crate training, and my doggy manners, and my mommy says I am a fast learner and would really benefit from continued training. I have never met a stranger. I am a real lovebug and simply want to love and be loved in return. I don't realize how big I am, and love to sit in your lap if you will let me! :) If you're looking for a loyal companion for life, I'm the guy for you! My mommy is working with the organization and would love to talk to you and answer any questions or concerns you may have about me, and I would love to meet you! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-11-13-00173Blackberry (male)
Blackberry is a 4-year-old tri-colored hound mix in foster in the Charlotte area. He weighs about 65 lbs. Here is an update from his foster: Blackberry is house and crate trained. He does howl if you put him in crate at night because he prefers to sleep on the couch (we don't crate him at night anymore since he doesn't have accidents anymore). LOVES kids!!! LOVES!! He is rambunctious and knocks Isabella (1 year old) down a lot, so older kids may be best (unless the parents are like us and don't mind their kid getting knocked down some....). He is gentle with her and lets her lay all over him! He loves to be outside when the older kids in the neighborhood are out and goes up to each and everyone of them to get some love! Walks decently on leash (still a work in progress). He will pee on leash but it takes him a while to poop on leash, but we have a fenced yard so we usually just let him poop out there. Needs at least a 6 foot fence or to be on leash at all times!! We have a 4 1/2 foot fence that he can jump over easily! He can probably get over a 6 foot fence too if there something against the fence for him to jump on to help him over. LOVES food and treats. He always takes treats nicely unless the rest of the other dogs are around and then he can get kind of choppy because he is worried that they're going to steal it. The only time I have ever seen him snarl at the other dogs is when he is in his crate eating and they go over to sniff his bowl. I can put my hand in his food bowl and take it away from him with no problems. He likes to chew on toys and will get a baby toy every now and then, but if you snap your fingers and tell him to leave it he just walks away. He really enjoys being petted and will stand there and let you pet and rub him as long as you will do it! He gets along well with all of our dogs, but does tend to buy a little hard while playing. We have not officially cat tested him but there are some feral cats that live around here that he will give the play position to but they just run away from him...so I can't give a good opinion on cats or small dogs. He is a hound and can be stubborn so teaching him to sit is also a work in progress....right now he just continuously backs up when I tried to get him to sit, so he hasn't mastered that yet. Overall, he is a very, very sweet dog and would be great in most any home. ******************************** LIKE US ON FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com/lovemuttsrescue Visit our WEBSITE www.lovemuttsrescue.org to find out more about our upcoming adoption events around the Triangle and which dogs will be there. Lily is a 3 year old Walker Hound mix who was found emaciated and living on the roadside. She has such a sweet personality that's so easy to love. She is now at her ideal weight (around 50 lbs.) and is ready to move on to a home of her own. She has been spayed, dewormed, microchipped, and is up to date on all vaccinations. Though she has no symptoms, she is Heartworm positive and is being treated with the slow-kill method. She is a shy girl and is slow to trust, so she will need a home willing to allow her to come around at her own pace. She would love a home with another dog, as she is most comfortable when she has another dog to look to and learn from. She has not been tested with cats. Lily is currently being fostered and has done well in the home. There will be an application, small adoption fee, and contract.
