Rescue Me ID: 17-07-03-00288Buster (male)

Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This is Buster he's about a year old he was rescued as a puppy. Buster has a loving personality and just wants to be around people. He knows basic commands, sit, lay down and shake. He does have the coon howl/bark and is very vocal which is difficult considering we live in a suburban area. He's a hunting dog so as far as small animals go I would definitely say no. He chases the raccoons that come in the yard up our back tree. He gets a long well with our rescue German Shepherd, although she's old and often doesn't want to play with him. I say no kids because he has growled at our 4 year old but our son also plays rough and likes to grab ... (Read More)tails. I think he would do better with older children who wouldn't be all over him. He would be a great hunting/hiking dog as he has a lot of energy. Or if you have property where he could roam. When my husband rescued him (without consulting me) he didn't know much about the breed and neither did I. Buster is too much for us and with him growling at our 4 year old we feel as if we can't turn our backs when our child is around him. He is also an escape artist who jumps our 4ft fence with no problem so you must be present with him or have him on a chain. Other than him growling at our 4 year old he really is a sweetheart he's just too much for us to handle unfortunately and because we can't trust him it's made things really difficult. I'm reaching out hoping that someone is looking for an adventurous dog. He will love you and lay with you or play or just do his own thing. I'm really hoping we can find him a new home because I really do not want to have to take him to a shelter. I've been in touch with hound rescues and unfortunately haven't heard anything back. I'm not really asking for an adoption fee I really just want him to go to a good home where he's going to be taken care of. (Less)
